Senior England Rugby player, and sustainability champion, Claudia MacDonald, has become an ambassador for PE, as it continues to lead the energy industry’s green transition.
Based in Canary Wharf, the tech-first utilities company and official utilities partner to the Rugby Football Union (RFU), has placed ‘green’ at its core, pioneering a range of initiatives to help its many thousands of business customers, including a number of grassroots rugby clubs, meet their carbon reduction goals while supporting the UK’s net zero ambitions.
“Playing sport is all about creating marginal gains, and I see sustainability through the same lens – encouraging people and businesses to make the small changes that lead to bigger, long-term impacts and a greener future for us all,” explained Claudia.
“I’m passionate about sustainability, a sentiment and ethos shared by PE. I’m delighted to be joining them as they continue to pave the way for a greener, more sustainable and carbon efficient utilities sector.”
In her ambassadorial role, Claudia will work with PE to raise awareness of the importance and impact of sustainability, as well as support its goals to help grass roots rugby clubs become increasingly sustainable, both in terms of the planet, and in their operational activities.
Chief Sales Officer at PE, Steve Daniels, added: “We founded PE to be different – placing sustainability at the forefront of all that we do has enabled us to innovate and truly empower our customers to make those sustainable changes for a greener future. Since then, we’ve continued to pioneer, making the Isle of Man TT Races carbon neutral for the first time in 2022 and supporting international carbon offsetting projects to name just a couple of initiatives.
“With her passion for sustainability, and her prominent status in rugby, partnering with Claudia MacDonald was a natural next step for us, and we’re so excited to see what we can achieve together.”
PE has engaged in a plethora of sustainable activities, many of which align with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. These include advances in electric vehicle charging, the development of a carbon calculator, introducing Time of Use tariffs and enabling its customers to compensate for their CO2 emissions by purchasing one carbon credit for every tonne of CO2 emissions produced by their business, with PE retiring their credits and providing them with carbon neutral certification.
The firm has also developed Pozitive Green Certificates, which show electricity and gas have been generated from renewable sources and are beneficial to the environment and economy.
This latest announcement follows PE’s appointment of rugby union legend, Kyran Bracken MBE as a non-executive director back in May 2023.
